The Festive Story

Festive was formed in 2007 by a small group of people with experience of ministering in Further Education who were keenly aware of and concerned about the lack of support available to Christian students staff and chaplains in this part of the education sector.  Working in partnership with Scripture Union and UCCF, through prayerful obedience to God and through His gracious provision of resources, much has been achieved.

Festive’s Mission is to work as part of the Christian Church for the benefit of Further Education Colleges and Sixth Forms in the UK and for the Glory of God.

Festive’s Vision is for ongoing effective Christian witness in these FE Colleges and Sixth Forms.

Festive’s Values are that we are:

   1) Dependent upon God

We know that it is His work and trust that He who calls us will provide for every need of ministry. So we work in His strength and for His glory.

   2) Committed to quality

We seek to produce and source resources that engage with Scripture, are prayerfully considered and demonstrate a firm grasp of the expectations and constraints of the FE sector.

   3) Intentional and appropriate

Students and staff within the FE Sector hold a diverse set of beliefs and practices. We advocate Christians to ‘…in your hearts revere Christ as Lord. Always be prepared to give an answer to everyone who asks you to give the reason for the hope that you have. But do this with gentleness and respect.’ (1 Peter 3:15).

Our Way of Working

Festive’s understanding is that Christians should be Christ’s Ambassadors through whom God makes an appeal to all to be reconciled to Himself (2 Corinthians 5 v 20). By focussing on the FE sector we aim to support believers working and studying there to be sure of their faith and take appropriate opportunities to share it. Festive’s PART is to provide ’Prayer, Advice, Resources and Training.

•Prayer: Festive was founded on prayer and seeks to operate in prayer. We have a special emphasis in modelling prayer to 16-19 year olds. Prayer support is offered to all who ask, either via a confidential ‘internal’ prayer sheet or via regular prayer news sent to supporters.

•Advice: Acknowledging that most of the work is done by the ‘Ambassadors’ we serve around the UK, Festive gives priority to support via email.  This includes personal responses on how to set up and run Christian Unions/Groups on campus, deal with inter-faith issues, cope with the requirements of college authorities and rise to the challenge of standing up for the Christian faith.

•Resources: our website contains a wide range of free resources specifically designed and suitable for use by Christians in Further Education.

•Training: We offer face-to-face training sessions at events and also directly with Christians in colleges and local churches, as resources permit. We believe that by offering advice and tailored resources we are also training individuals to serve well.

Although our website and email contact are central elements in our ministry we do seek personal contact as many as possible through events and visits.

“Now to Him who is able to do immeasurably more than all we ask or imagine, according to His power that is at work within us, to Him be glory in the church and in Christ Jesus throughout all generations, for ever and ever! Amen.”

Ephesians Ch3 v20-21
